The Oscars and Animation

I’ve been very intrigued lately by the growing notion of the animated film Oscar category as a “ghetto”. It’s an interesting choice of word and appears to mean that the Academy and its voting members segregate animation to separate but equal treatment in the animated film category. But is it really? I’m not that easily convinced but I have yet to make up my mind. I can see both sides of the argument. As always, the whole thing is more complicated than it seems.

Oh, so you draw?

I’m often asked about the process of animating a scene and what that entails. Put simply, it’s about being an actress or actor and bringing to life an inanimate object.No matter what medium you choose, your ability to understand and capture your character’s motivations is key to animating your scene.It helps to have a well-written script available to you, but some scenes will have to be carried all in the action.Here are some of the steps I go through when animating a scene to completion.
